Plate spinning is actually my metaphor for how great software is developed. The plates represent a particular topic of how to develop great software. The balance represents how one needs to take a pragmatic approach to a particular topic and finally all the topics need to be spinning together. If one loses balance, the rest of the plates will topple as well.

There is nothing I enjoy more than making many plates spin for a long period of time. Plates will occasionaly wobble, but you need to start spinning them again before they fall and knock off other plates. If you can spin the plates long enough the result will be a great product.
